What Countertop is Right for Me?

It happens every winter. We're stuck inside...and we begin to notice those little things throughout our homes that irk us to no end.

The stain in the carpet. The dim lighting in the living room. The dated countertops.

The past two years have been even worse; COVID has kept many of us inside more than we're out in the public, and the more we sit in our homes, the more we get antsy about these "little" things that bother us.

Maybe a kitchen remodel is out of the question right now. But what about a kitchen update in the form of new countertops? When you replace your countertops, your kitchen gets an instant makeover. But what's right for your home?

Check out Alamo Handyman's kitchen counter recommendations below!

1. Marble Countertops

We started with the fanciest first. Marble countertops are timeless, and they wear extraordinarily well.

This top-of-the-line option incorporates variant color tones and adds an element of texture to every kitchen. Whether you implement it on just an island or through the entire room, it is sure to add an element of class to any home. The downside? It comes at a high price point. If you're willing the make the investment in a long-standing, high quality product, this is the counter option for you.

2. Wood Countertops

It could be argued that wood countertops were born out of the Pinterest revolution. There is something homey and cabin-esque about a full on wood (or "butcher block") countertop.

However, this option has been around for quite awhile because of its functionality, its aesthetic, and its affordability.

As long as you can maintain cleanliness and avoid heavy damage, this option is a good one. However, if you are rough on your counters or if you are looking for something to last for decades, this may not be the right fit for you.

3. Granite Countertops

Ah, the classic. Granite countertops are the conventional "craved" counter option. A step above the more affordable options, and just below the high-quality marble options, granite it a sweet spot for most American families.

It hides the grime, it takes a beating, and it withstands the ages. Granite is a solid choice for almost any home. And the added benefit? It comes in multiple color schemes, making it a great fit, regardless of the aesthetic of your home!

4. Laminate Countertops

Laminate is a mainstay. Although it doesn't have the mature appearance of granite or marble, it does withstand years of abuse, making it a great choice for families. Additionally, the laminate finish options are plentiful. If you are looking for dark to complement existing colors, a white to add the illusion of space, or a pattern to hide spills and damage, laminate is the option that will do it all.

It's affordable, but it does not feel luxurious. If you are looking for an option that will get the job done without breaking the bank, laminate is the countertop to turn to.

There are many other counter options to consider, but these five should get you started in the right direction. Have you figured out what's right for you? Let us know....or reach out to us and we can get started on your project!
