Small Bathroom, Big Impacts

A small bathroom does not mean you must have a boring bathroom! Whether you're looking to spruce up your master bath or a half-bath primarily used by guests, there are plenty of affordable ways you can create a big presence from this often tiny room in your home.

Check out Alamo Handyman's 5 recommended ways to make your small bathroom feel bigger:

1. Get fun with the walls!

Don't buy into the traditional thought behind white bathrooms. Yes, white paint makes a medium-sized space feel larger...but in a small, rectangular bathroom, it can feel clinical, if not stifling.

Don't be afraid to get creative with your walls. Accent paint walls are making a comeback--adding one green wall to an otherwise sterile space can make it feel more alive and, counterintuitively, larger! The same can be said for a light patterned wallpaper. A cream base with thin, geometric prints can add vibrancy to the space, making it feel larger and more important than"just a bathroom."

2. Use Non-Traditional Storage

No linen closet? No medicine cabinet? No problem! Multiple towel racks, floating shelves, and dual-purpose TP holders will help you maximize your storage space and even create room for a few decorative pieces to make the space more personalized.

3. Strategically Place Mirrors

We all know that mirrors add an illusion of spaciousness. Install a large mirror above the vanity or on one entire wall to reflect light and give the impression of a bigger area. Consider adding mirrored cabinets or shelving units to amplify the effect. By strategically placing mirrors, you can make the bathroom feel twice as large.

4. Reconsider your Counter Space

Do you really elbow space on your bathroom counters? If you incorporate floating or hanging storage, you may be able to add an element of spaciousness by getting rid of your bulky bathroom counter and replacing it with a simple pillared vanity.

This on-trend option is aesthetically pleasing in addition to creating more room in your small bathroom!

5. Get Rid of that Tub!

If this is a full bathroom and you're tight on space, consider a question: How often do you use your bathtub? Maybe you use it all the time, and this is a dealbreaker. But if not, consider getting rid of that huge tub and instead installing a luxurious glass shower.

This will make your bathroom more modern, in addition to more spacious!
