Does Your Home Need a Facelift?

Updated: Apr 28, 2020

The South Texas climate can wreak havoc on a home. From blistering heat, to spring thunderstorms, to insufferable humidity, our inhospitable weather will slowly fade the beauty from your home's exterior. Unfortunately, since these changes are gradual, we don't often notice them right away.

Below are four areas of your home that may need a "facelift." Call Alamo Handyman today to get information on how you can update these areas to improve your curb appeal and make your home look brand new!

1. Fascia Repair

What is fascia? Fascia board is wood around your roof that connects rafters, gutters, and other features. It is dual purpose--both decorative (to create a smoother look around your roof) and also protective (the wood acts like a barrier between the edge of your roof and the outdoor elements.)

Since fascia helps protect the edge of your roof, it takes the brunt of bad weather conditions. Because of this, fascia board often looks weathered and it begins peeling sooner than other sections of your home's exterior. If you look closely at your home today, you may notice it! Hiring a professional to repair or replace your fascia board is a quick and easy way to give your home a cleaner and more updated look.

2. Siding Repair

After storms or particularly dry summers, your home's siding may become loose, cracked, or damaged. We know that a home's siding helps create the first impression of a house--is it clean and in good condition? If not, it can add the appearance of years of wear and tear to your property.

Even without physically damaged boards, you may notice that your home is looking shabby due to warped, dirty, or faded boards. When you have your siding repaired (or in some cases, replaced) your home's appearance will get an automatic boost!

3. Exterior Trim Repair & Repaint

The sun, the rain, and the wind all act in conjunction to ruin your trim. And unfortunately, there are few things that make your home look more neglected than peeling, dilapidated trim.

Repainting or replacing trim is a job that seems painless until you get into the throes of completing it. From prepping the home, to sanding the trim, to removing screen doors, to cleaning windows once the job is done, there's a great deal of work that goes into the task. As with most other home improvement jobs, it is highly recommended that you use a professional to tackle repainting and repairing exterior trim.

4. Stucco Repair

Do you live in a stucco home? Stucco exteriors add a beautiful Southwestern aesthetic to any home, and it typically weathers well. However, stucco is not impenetrable--it does not hold well against shifting earth. And as we all know, South Texas is notorious for our shifting earth!

You may notice that your stucco is beginning to "crack" in some places. These unsightly cracks can be easily repaired and repainted by a professional. When this job is completed properly and with the right materials, your exterior will last longer, appear smoother, and prevent future stucco peeling. Perhaps most noticeably, your home will immediately gain a fresh, updated appearance.
